DOCTOR'S MENOPAUSE FORMULA

"Doctor's Menopause Formula" is a comprehensive herbal supplement designed to help reduce and/or eliminate the various symptoms of discomfort that occur in the perimenopausal stage of a woman's life. Doctor's Menopause contains the same level of soy isoflavones and triterpene glycosides (from Black cohosh) that have been documented to reduce the frequency and severity of hot flashes in clinical studies. In addition, the formula contains the herbs Vitex and Licorice root that function as hormone balancers, Dong qui to help reduce cramps and regulate the menses, Wild Yam for its moisturizing and cooling effects, Motherwort to help calm and relax, and Gentian root to support liver detoxification and reduce the aches and pains associated with menopause. These symptoms arise from hormonal imbalances namely, a decline in estrogen; a more severe decline in progresterone levels; and a sharp rise in circulating levels of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follide Stimulation Hormone. The hympthalamus secretes LH and FSH. It also directs many important bodily functions including body temperature, sleep patterns, metabolic rate, mood, and reaction to stress. The hypothalamus is thought to contribute to the hot flash experience. Surges of LH and FSH cause blood vessel dilation, which increases blood flow to the skin, raising its temperature. Hormones do not function as independent entities but in concert with other hormones creating a cascade reaction that affects many bodily functions. This is why other hormones and body chemicals are affected by the decline in estrogen and may participate in triggering a hot flash. The phytoestrogens in "Doctor's Menopause Formula" function as hormone balancers, reducing LH and FSH levels, and mimicking the effects of the diminishing hormones- estrogen and progesterone. The hot flash experience is not common among all cultures. It is predominantly a phenomenon of Western culture. In Japan, phytoestrogens are a staple of diet: hot flashed are so rare that there is no word that precisely describes them. Menopause is the cessation of menstruation. It typically occurs between the ages of 48 to 52. The changes in a woman's emotional and physical well-being during the perimenopause are largely due to hormonal fluctuations. Perimenopause is the span of time before the last period. It may extend anywhere from a few months to several years and is characterized by irregular periods and other symptoms such as hot flashes (flushes), changes in sleeping patterns, fatigue, heart palpitations, mood swings, and weight gain. The number and severity of symptoms vary from woman to woman. Phytoestrogens vs. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) 1. Phytoestrogens are structurally similar to estrogen. They can "fit" into estrogen receptor sites on the cells. Phytoestrogens are thousands of times weaker than the body's estrogen counterparts. They do not stimulate excessive cellular metabolism; that can occur with the more powerful estrogen in the body- estradiol. 2. When estrogen levels are low (such as in perimenopause) they can mimic the effects of the body's estrogen and promote balance. 3. A lack of estrogen and progesterone during perimenopause causes the hypothalamus to send a signal to the pitituary to pump out more LH and FSH in an attempt to stimulate the ovaries to produce more estrogen and progesterone. Elevations in these two hormones (LH and FSH) during perimenopause are believed to be responsible for hot flashes. Phytoestrogens send a signal to the hypothalamus that there is circulating estrogen and progesterone. The hypothalamus does not perceive a need for more estrogen and progesterone, the signal is not sent to the pitituary, and consequently less LH and FSH are secreted by the pitituary. The end result is fewer hot flashes. In summary, phytochemicals including phytoestrogens offer an alternative to HRT by promoting balance in the levels of estrogen, progesterone, LH and FSH.

FORMULA INGREDIENTS

Black Cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa): has been traditionally used as a relaxant, sedative and antispasmodic. It is one of the most popular herbs used in Europe today for treating female complaints. The isoflavones and triterene glycosides in Black cohosh are thought to contribute to its endocrine activity. Three capsules of "Doctor's Menopause Formula" yield 3 mg of triterpene glycosides comparable to levels used in clinical studies. Soy Isoflavones: Soybeans are the richest known source of phytoestrogens, yet their potency is only 1/100,000 the estrogen activity of natural estradiol. Soy isoflavones have been the subject of much scientific research due to their pronounced estrogenic effect and ability to promote normal cellular metabolism in the body. "D.M.F." yields 45mg of soy isoflavones comparable to the quantity used in clinical studies. Chaste Berry (Vitex angnus -castus): is one of the most popular herbs in Europe for treating menopause and PMS. Vitex may help prolong progesterone's positive effects throughout menopause. "D.M.F." provides 150mg of Vitex 4:1 extract. Licorice Root (Glycyrrbiza glabra): inhibits secretion of prolactin, a hormone that decreases progesterone production. Thus, Licorice root may function as a "hormone balancer" during menopause. "D.M.F." contains licorice root extract standardized to 10% glycyrrhizin. Dong Quai (Angelica sinensis): helps regulate the menses, is antianemic and is a smooth muscle relaxant. Contains phytoestrogens that are 1:400 as active as estrogen. "D.M.F." provides 150mg of Dong Quai 4:1 extract. Motherwort Leaf (Leonurus cardiaca): may be beneficial for women who experience insomnia, tension or anxiety during menopause. "D.M.F." provides 75mg. of Motherwort Leaf. Gentian Root (Gentiana seabra): helps support the normal liver function, promotes detoxification, and reduces aches and pains that accompany decline in estrogen and progesterone during menopause. "D.M.F." provides 50mg. of Gentian Root.
